چکیده

Using the Very Large Array (VLA) in the A-configuration, we have obtained a high-resolution 3.6 cm map of a hard X-ray source detected by the Chandra X-ray Observatory in a protostellar clump in Orion molecular cloud 3. Two radio continuum sources were detected in the vicinity of the X-ray source, both of which have NIR counterparts. We conclude that these VLA sources are free-free emission produced by shocks in protostellar jets from the NIR class I protostars. Using the centimeter data, we determined the power and orientation of the protostellar jets. The center position of the X-ray emission was found to be ∼ 1–2 offset from the exciting sources of the jets, and the displacement is in the direction of the jets and molecular outflows. We discuss the nature of the X-ray emission as the shock-excited plasma at the shock front where the jet propagates through interstellar medium at a speed of ∼ 1000km s.

Discovery of X - ray emission from the protostellar jet L 1551 IRS 5 ( HH 154 )

We have for the first time detected X-ray emission associated with a protostellar jet, on the jet emanating from the L1551 IRS5 protostar. The IRS5 protostar is hidden behind a very large absorbing column density, making the direct observation of the jet’s emission possible. The observed X-ray emission is likely associated with the shock “working surface”, i.e. the interface between the jet and...

The Discovery of an Expanding X-ray Source in the Hh 154 Protostellar Jet

1 One key diagnostic discriminating among physical emission mechanisms is the motion of the X-ray source: hydrody-namical numerical models of continuous protostellar jets plowing through a uniform medium show an X-ray emitting shock front moving at several hundreds km/s. In the nearest X-ray emitting protostellar jet, HH 154, this is detectable, with the spatial resolution of the Chandra X-ray ...

We have mapped the protostellar jet HH 211 in 342 GHz continuum, SiO (J = 8− 7), and CO (J = 3− 2) emission at ∼ 1 resolution with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Thermal dust emission is seen in continuum at the center of the jet, tracing an envelope and a possible optically thick compact disk (with a size < 130 AU) around the protostar. A knotty jet is seen in CO and SiO as in H2, but extendin...

X-rays from protostellar jets: emission from continuous flows

Context. Recently X-ray emission from protostellar jets has been detected with both XMM-Newton and Chandra satellites, but the physical mechanism which can give rise to this emission is still unclear. Aims. We performed an extensive exploration of the parameter space for the main parameters influencing the jet/ambient medium interaction. Aims include: 1) to constrain the jet/ambient medium inte...

On the Nature of the Deeply Embedded Protostar Omc-2 Fir 4

We use mid-infrared to submillimeter data from the Spitzer, Herschel, and APEX telescopes to study the bright sub-mm source OMC-2 FIR 4. We find a point source at 8, 24, and 70 μm, and a compact, but extended source at 160, 350, and 870 μm. The peak of the emission from 8 to 70 μm, attributed to the protostar associated with FIR 4, is displaced relative to the peak of the extended emission; the...
